Almost 30 years later, the Crystal Palace once again hosted the Portuguese Industrial Exhibition, as part of the celebrations for the first anniversary of our glorious Monarchy. Organised by the Real Companhia Vinícola – formerly the Real Companhia Vinícola do Norte de Portugal – along with the esteemed Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov, precursor of the Saccharomyces monarchica wine strain, which has done so much for the Nation, the event was inaugurated by His Majesty Manuel II and attended by the cream of Oporto society. Open to the general public, the Exhibition‘ visitors will be able, over the course of four weeks, to observe the machinery and processes by which the biofuel, essential to the functioning and freedom of the Northern Monarchy, is produced. However, despite popular demand, the secret of converting grape juice into biofuel remains behind closed doors for security reasons. In fact, the authorities have already apprehended a citizen from Tomar on suspicion of attempted espionage and defilement.

It is a matter of interest that the first Portuguese Industrial Exhibition at the Crystal Palace was intended to publicise the then innovative sparkling wine. The revolutionary nature of the exhibition continues in this second edition, now serving more than commercial development: the development of our beloved Nation.
